Current infection rate data
When you look at these numbers, it is important to compare "apples to apples." You can do this by sorting by the column that gives per capita data and usually take a look at the deaths per capita as well as infection rates. Not every locality has the same ability to test. There are questions about how deaths are being tracked, but I find that to be a solid number to compare across the board. When you click the column header, it sorts from lowest to highest first, but if you click it again, you can sort from highest to lowest.

What about schools?
Update from Dr. Steve Herrington, Sonoma County Superintendent of Schools 5/27/20
California schools have a lot of work to do before they can reopen. New systems need to be designed and implemented to allow for social distancing (in often already overcrowded facilities) and increased cleaning & sanitation . That said, many students are suffering academically and educators are anticipating a much larger "summer slide" than usual due to the school closures. Some do not have the technology or internet access they need to access distance learning.
Each district, along with the State Superintendent of Public Instruction and local county offices of education are working to come up with these new systems.
